Cars and trucks have come a long way in the past 100 years. Can you imagine driving a car without air conditioning? Or without a radio? Or driving around L.A. without traffic signals? Lucky for us we have all the conveniences, but below are some historical automobile facts that I think you will find amusing:

A production car contains more than 44 pounds of glue.
The first speeding ticket was issued in 1902.
Early Ford vehicles contained Dodge engines.
The windshield wiper was patented in 1905 by a woman.
Automobile radios appeared for the first time in 1929.
The first car to ever be reported as 'stolen' happened in 1905 in St. Louis.
The first stop sign appeared in Detroit in 1914.
The first 3 color traffic signal light appeared in 1918 in Detroit.
In 1949 Chrysler introduced the first car to start by only turning a key.
The first car sold on the installment plan happened in 1905.
Cruise control made its way to the market in 1957.
The first traffic lines to be painted were on the streets of Redlands, California in 1912.
The first automobile licenses were issued in New York State in 1901.
Motorcar stocks were first listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1911.
The man who invented the perfected automobile headlights and tail lights in 1923 was blind.

We sure are lucky to have all our car conveniences! Just think of what the next 100 years will bring.

Our Celebrity Scrapbook!

Welcome to our Celebrity Scrapbook! Not everyone is fortunate enough to have been graced with the presence of a celebrity or NBA star in their office, unless of course, you work at Glenn E Thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep. GET has a long standing history of working with celebrities, dating back to the photo of Glenn E. Thomas, Babe Ruth and Lou Gherig that hangs in our showroom. We thought we would take you on a journey through our photo book and tell you a little bit about our experience with each Celebrity.

LUKE WILSON

Luke Wilson's visit to GET was definitely a good day to be at work! Luke was dropped off by friends to our dealership in an old Saab. He was so excited to get his new Challenger that he couldn't sleep the night before. He brought along his AC/DC CD and put it in as soon as he got in the car. He wanted this car over his Porsche! Luke was very polite and friendly to all our employees!


DAVID SPADE

We delivered David Spade's Challenger to his Beverly Hills home. Our phone call for him to open the gate was his wake up call, so forgive his attire in this photo. He went into his Joe Dirt character voice and said, "Now I got a HEMI".


AUDRINA PATRIDGE:
Brad and Victor had a tough day at work when they delivered a Challenger to Audrina Patridge. They said Audrina was very friendly and thankful to them for delivering her car. Surprisingly, she knew alot about how the car worked!


COREY MAGGETTE: As an avid sports fan, our President, Bob Davis, was ecstatic when NBA Star Corey Maggette came in for his Magnum SRT-8. He was excited to finally have some legroom in a car!

LAKER GIRLS:
Who wouldn't want the Laker Girls to visit their work? Everyone was excited when these pretty ladies walked in!

Unfortunately, we didn't capture pictures when we worked with Snoop Dogg, Carmen Electra, Chase Crawford and Kimberly Paisley. We enjoyed working with all of them!

A Look Inside the Moab Jeep Safari

When somebody mentions the Moab Jeep Safari, I instantly think of three things: noise, crazy off-roading, and fun memories.

Moab, Utah is a mecca for off-road enthusiasts and every year at the Annual Moab Easter Jeep Safari the streets rumble with noise as Utah's Red Rock country is invaded with 4x4 vehicles. The site is truly indescribable and must be seen to believe. Although it is called the 'Jeep Safari,' and you will see more Jeeps than anything else, ultimately four-wheel drive is the only qualifier. Every make, model and knock-off can be found here.
The amazing thing about this event is that it attracts people of all types from all over the world. Families, hard-core enthusiasts and people just looking for a good time head to this beautiful terrain called Moab. The Moab Jeep Safari offers more than 50 off-road trails to challenge not only your off-road skills, but also your vehicle. I have had the opportunity to attend this event a few times. What a sight to see! Most of the Jeeps here are modified, but some are just bone stock, or as my brother-in-law calls them, Cheerleader Jeeps, claiming that they are just all for looks.The trails are rated from 1-5, easy to difficult. Some of these trails are absolutely crazy! I am lucky to have an old friend, Calvin, who attends the event annually to give me some close up photos of the 2010 Jeep Safari. Calvin has been working on vehicles since Jr. High. He is truly 'The Man' at the Jeep Safari.

Calvin has custom built his Jeep himself. It is a 1978 CJ-7 with 1ton axles, a custom 4 link rear suspension, and a custom 3 link front suspension with fox coilovers and full hydraulic steering. His wheelbase has been extended to 117 inches for steep climbs and shooting up waterfalls. And it rides on 38.5" tall super swamper tires!

The Moab trails cover some of the most rugged and scenic country you can find. Forest, desert, steep canyon walls and rims, rivers, mountains, and the famous Moab "slick rock" provide for variety and fascinating beauty.

During my visits to Moab, I have seen some of the most incredible and insane things. I distinctly remember one obstacle called 'Potato Salad Hill'. Vehicle after vehicle would attempt to make it up 'Potato Salad Hill' with no luck. Vehicles continually roll off or slide off (except the Dodge Trucks and Jeeps, of course...) yet a line of vehicles still form for more enthusiasts to attempt to beat the challenge. When a vehicle actually successfully made it up the hill, what a thrill to see! If you enjoy off-roading, the Moab Jeep Safari should be added to your list of 'Things of Do'.

Features of the Dodge Journey

This past month I took a road trip in my Dodge Journey. I have always been a huge fan of my car, even to the point that people ask me if I sell them, but I love it even more now. With TONS of storage space and many convenient features, my car is the perfect road trip car! I brought along my camera as I packed my Journey to highlight some of my favorite features.

I never fully appreciated all of the storage features the Journey has until I started traveling with my 18-month old son. It seems like we have so many additional things to bring for him that we need to utilize all the storage space we can!

My absolute favorite feature of the Journey is that I can plug my ipod into the glove box interface and my radio becomes my ipod. It is awesome! The dual climate control also makes for a much more peaceful ride, as I am always cold and my husband is always hot.





The floor storage bins in the second row can be ice chests! I packed it with our favorite drinks and snacks.





I knew we were in for at least a 6 hour drive so I brought along my son's portable DVD player. The Journey's passenger seat lifts up and has hidden storage! This is perfect for hiding your purse when you're in the gym or just quickly running into a store. For this occasion, I put the DVD player in there so I would know where to find it when I needed it!



The Journey also features a mirror that lets you easily see the back seat without turning around. I use this alot! It is so convenient, especially when you are on the freeway and can't turn around.

I knew I would be working out a lot once we made it to our destination. I used the rear underneath storage to stash all of my workout gear. It was perfect because my gear was not scattered everywhere, and I never had to look for it! Everything was all together - out of plain sight!

Hi, my name is Kori. This is my new 'corner'. The purpose of this column is to keep you up to speed on everything at Glenn E Thomas Dodge Chrysler Jeep. I am also here for you, as a customer, to be your concierge. If you have any questions, comments, or just random facts of knowledge, I am here for you. Since I am married to the owner’s son, I tend to have some pull with the big man upstairs in the corner office. So reach me at kori@getdodge.com for all your needs.

About Me...

I am an average 20 something mom and do things average women my age do. Most my days are spent chasing around my one year old son; however, we do have fun and try to make the most of each day. I'm sure our outings and crazy adventures will be logged for your enjoyment. I enjoy walks along the beach, baking, watching good TV shows, milk chocolate candies, and diet coke. I am excited to be writing this monthly column, and hopefully you will find my life and the life of GET Dodge Chrysler Jeep somewhat interesting.

As I mentioned above I am big fan of good TV shows. Which got me thinking the other night about what Chrysler product some of my favorite characters would drive? Let’s take a ride and find out.

Jack Bauer (24): By the way, doesn’t it feel good to have Jack back? Holy hiatus. This show left my Monday nights lacking real substance for way too long. Seriously, don’t mess with Jack. Must I take you back to last season when Jack bit that dude’s neck to get out of interrogation? That is why he drives a Dodge Charger RT. Mean, tough and fast. I reiterate...don't mess with Jack.

Don Draper (Mad Men): Classy Executive but needs room for the family (no, I am not talking about his mistresses, his real family) Easy pick, the Chrysler 300. Luxury, classy, roomy.

Michael Scott (The Office): This is easy, he drives a Sebring. The show already got this one for me. Doesn't the Sebring just scream Michael Scott? Enough said.

McDreamy (Grey’s Anatomy): Good looking, edgy, has that mountain house (oh wait, it's a trailer). Obviously he belongs in a Jeep Wrangler.

Audrina (The Hills) – This is easy, we already got her in a Challenger.

Check out GET Employees Brad and Victor with Audrina! That was a tough day at work for these two...

Neal Caffrey (White Collar): The only car fitting of Neal is the Dodge Viper. Sophisticated, good looking con artist turned FBI agent. A man who knows what he wants and gets it. That is why he drives the Viper!

Tim Riggins (Friday Night Lights): Dodge Ram. Riggins is tough, rugged, and strong. He needs to be able to pick up a keg after practice, grab his lady and be the life of the party. Perfect fit for the Ram!
